POKEMON USA- redubbed from Japanese version

Both Pokemon the First Movie and the Pokemon Television shows have been redubbed and “Americanized” by 4 KIDS ENTERTAINMENT, who were brought into the project by Nintendo, which owns the rights in this country.

I CHOOSE YOU PIKACHU

In the first DVD series of three episodes called “I Choose You Pikachu”, by Pioneer electronics you’ll learn a lot about what your children or you are in store for if you want to follow the show’s philosophy.

The lead character of this Pokemon animated series, ASH KETCHUM, has turned ten and there is no greater honor than beginning the ways of the Pokemon Trainer, with the goals of collecting all the pocket Monsters there are, and being acknowledged as the greatest Pokemon master.

Ash always thinks he knows everything, and rushes into battle or situations without thinking, he’s not a role model for any kids to follow, as yet. He, with his baby Pokemon Pikachu, are learning together. He has a little girl following him on his adventures named MISTY. Of course he hates her, won’t listen to her advice, and the only reason she’s tagging along is that Ash owes her a new bike after he took it without permission and broke it while trying to save Pickachu’s life.

Style & substance

DON’T WORRY PARENTS POKEMON NEVER DIE?

It’s at Pokemon school that Ash is given his first Pokemon, a baby called Pikachu, a cute fuzzy character that also has the power to send out lighting bolts and electrical charges. Like all Japanese animation of this type all the characters do is go bug eyed, and their hair and clothes get singed, then by the next frame you’re back to normal and the story continues.

Also Pokemon only get weak during Battles--they never die. When it comes to near death scenes Pikachu has pathos worthy of any Soap Opera Emmy Award winner. It’s heart wrenching to the child watching at times, but every thing always turns out well at the end. There’s lots of emotionally charged music and images during the battles and near death scenes.
