SUMMARY
OF AN ERA
The America portrayed
on TV of the fifties was an antiseptic country, a
drug-free culture with no political, economic or ethnic
strife - a simple, middle-class white suburban world
represented by the likes of Ozzie
and Harriet, I Love
Lucy, Donna Reed,
and Father Knows Best,
that would get its last gasp on television in the
guise of The Brady Bunch--a
strange, distorted environment where parents didn't
raise their voices in anger.
They always loved each other, and there was no such
thing as divorce or money problems. In this TV culture,
moms never worked, they just took care of the household
while the husband was the bread winner.
We kept the female population happy with great items
for the home, and let them go shopping, usually for
items the demand for which was dictated by the new
breed of TV advertisements.
Everything we would eat, wear & use in every day life
was slowly being dictated to us by our new best friend,
the television set.
